The Maurice Podoloff NBA Basketball Sports Trophy, also known as the NBA MVP Trophy, was first presented by the National Basketball Association in 1955. In 1985 the NBA wanted a new trophy reflecting the prestige of the award, and commissioned Marc Mellon to sculpt the bronze Maurice Podoloff Trophy, presented to every NBA MVP recipient since Larry Bird received his in 1986.
